Key Hire Brings Extensive Experience with Groundbreaking Technologies
to Luminate as Company Bolsters Development for the First
Platform for Interactive Images
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — November 29, 2011 — Luminate, Inc. the worldwide leader in interactive images, today announced the appointment of Troy Chevalier as Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Chevalier brings more than 25 years of experience to the team, spanning innovative tech start-ups and industry-leading public companies. His appointment comes as Luminate accelerates development efforts in building out the first platform for interactive images.
Prior to joining Luminate, Mr. Chevalier spent 11 years at Tellme overseeing development. As an early employee, he was brought on as Vice President of Platform Engineering. Under Mr. Chevalier’s leadership, his team created the software that powered the Tellme Network, a highly-available, on-demand inbound/outbound IVR service that sparked the sale of Tellme to Microsoft in 2007. Mr. Chevalier remained with the company after its acquisition to head development efforts for the RESTful web-based speech recognition and synthesis services used by consumer apps like Bing and Xbox.
Mr. Chevalier also spent more than five years at Netscape as a Sr. Software Engineer and Software Development Manager, where his team designed and implemented the software for Netscape Navigator. He is recognized as one of the founding engineers of the Mozilla next-generation layout engine effort. He has also held key engineering positions at GO/EO, Borland, Sun Microsystems, and Data General.
"Troy Chevalier is one of the most sought after engineers in the Valley because of his deep experience creating and scaling several groundbreaking technologies," said Luminate CTO James Everingham. "Troy is also widely recognized for his tireless work ethic and outstanding leadership skills. His decision to join us underscores what an enormous opportunity Luminate represents in its development of the first platform for interactive images."
"Images to this point have seen little attention from developers and engineers, which has constrained the potential of web content, commerce, and to a certain extent, communication,” said Mr. Chevalier. "Luminate is completely flipping the Internet experience on its head by focusing on the image in a very powerful way. I’m excited to be a part of this team as we take images to the next level, allowing consumers, publishers, and advertisers to engage with images in novel ways. "
The first-of-its-kind Luminate platform allows consumers to launch applications within the individual images on their favorite websites. The apps available on the Luminate platform allow consumers to conduct their favorite everyday online activities such as shopping, sharing, commenting and navigating directly from images, as well as to facilitate entirely new services made possible by the development of apps specifically for images. Image apps also open new opportunities for publishers and advertisers seeking new ways to connect with their target audiences.
